The Clients’ Vision
Our clients had a clear intent for the design from our very first meeting; the brief was to create a luxurious Hamptons inspired kitchen, and to take advantage of the home’s existing classical architecture.
The initial conversation revolved around how to maximise the potential of the existing parameters and the conclusion was drawn to remove an internal wall to open the space up and to increase the kitchen footprint, subsequently creating a more functional layout and improving the overall flow.
With their new open space, we discussed opportunities of how to make the kitchen feel warm and inviting while also being a purposeful space for our clients who are both keen chefs and entertainers.
Key requests were practical accessories fitted to their cabinetry, in addition to custom joinery pieces specifically designed to suit their needs.
This 1928 elevated character weatherboard home full of original features and perched on a hill with remarkable views has all the charm of yesteryear.
Emphasis is put on the kitchen being a well thought and functional space, with designated storage areas for our client’s belongings. Hafele’s Hailo Euro Cargo is seamlessly integrated into the island for easy clean up during food preparation. The Blum Antaro Space Tower serves as practical pantry storage, along with the Orgaline Stainless Steel Cutlery insert located close to the external door, for easy access when hosting outdoors.
Cabinetry is taken up to new heights with the feature chimney breast, and the overhead cabinets were strategically stopped 300mm below the ceiling, resulting in uninterrupted original cornicing and a striking shadow line above the custom joinery and stunning Monarch trim.
Custom Tasmanian oak timber chopping boards are encased in joinery either side of the ILVE freestanding cooker and residing next to the cooktop are pull out spice and condiments racks, ready to be used during cooking.
An original feature window on a 45-degree angle above the sink presented a challenge with how the overhead cabinetry will relate to the area, and it was decided to finish with an open shelf to not obstruct the window and create a sense of openness.
To drive the Hamptons feel home; ornate kickers meet the repurposed original hardwood floors and the material palette was kept neutral and whites have been layered to accentuate and complement the new bright and airy space.
